Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived Leh Tuesday on a day-long visit to the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir.

Modi was received at the Leh airport by state Governor NN Vohra, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Ladakh parliamentarian Nawan Rigzin Jora, Chief of Indian Army Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag and senior civil, police and military officials.

The prime minister is accompanied by Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal and national security advisor Ajeet Doval. Modi will inaugurate the 45 MW Nimoo-Bazgo hydroelectric power project which is situated at Alchi village, 70 km from Leh.

The inauguration will be done at Leh polo grounds, where he will also be addressing a public rally. Later, Modi will inaugurate another 44 MW hydro power project at Chutak village in Kargil district.

The prime minister will also lay the foundation stone of the 1,700 crore and 330-km long Leh-Srinagar transmission line. Modi will also address army men guarding the country’s highest battleground at the Siachen glacier.
