SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed profound sorrow over the death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a fatal aircraft crash at Baramati airport, remembering him as a grassroots leader devoted to public service.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister paid tribute to Pawar’s political journey and administrative abilities, describing him as a mass leader with a strong connection to the people. He said Pawar was widely respected for his tireless work and commitment to serving Maharashtra.

PM Modi also highlighted Pawar’s understanding of governance and his dedication to empowering the poor and marginalised sections of society. Calling the loss sudden and heartbreaking, he conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and his supporters.
The Prime Minister’s message came after authorities confirmed that a Learjet 45 aircraft carrying Pawar and four others crashed while landing at Baramati airport, killing all on board.
A senior Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) official said the aircraft was carrying five people, including Pawar, two accompanying staff members and two crew members. Initial reports indicated there were no survivors.
The DGCA has dispatched a team to the crash site to examine the circumstances of the accident and begin a detailed investigation.
Ajit Pawar, who was serving as Deputy Chief Minister, was a prominent figure in Maharashtra politics, known for his administrative experience and significant electoral influence across the state.
