SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the Pradhan Mantri Samajik Utthan evam Rozgar Adharit Jankalyan (PM-SURAJ) national portal, offering credit support to one lakh entrepreneurs from socially disadvantaged sections nationwide.

In Jammu and Kashmir, 1747 beneficiaries from Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes (OBC), and the Safai Karamchari community received assistance to kickstart businesses, thanks to the Prime Minister’s initiative, a DIPR statement said.

Expressing his appreciation, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for extending credit support to entrepreneurs from underprivileged backgrounds.

The ceremony witnessed the distribution of Ayushman Health Cards and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits to beneficiaries from disadvantaged groups, including Safai Karmcharis, Sewer, and Septic Tank Workers, under the National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE).

Prime Minister Modi interacted with Ms Neelam Kumari from Kathua, who utilised a government loan to establish her boutique. Praising her entrepreneurial spirit, the Prime Minister lauded her efforts in providing employment to other women, alongside benefiting from schemes like Ujjwala, PM Awas, Ayushman, and Swachh Bharat.

The nationwide initiative garnered participation from approximately 3 lakh beneficiaries of various government schemes and disadvantaged groups across over 500 districts, showcasing the widespread impact of the initiative.
