Prime Minister Narendra Modi has told J&K Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh that while Jammu is politically important for the party, Kashmir should not be ignored, informed sources said. He was asked to be fair to Kashmir in the overall decision-making, attention and governance.
Dr Singh who had a meeting with Modi on Saturday briefed the Prime Minister about the overall performance of the government. Apart from briefing him about certain key projects, sources said activities of a few ministers were particularly discussed.
Prime Minister is reported to have sought details from Dr Singh about the recent happenings within and outside the state legislature. For last more than a week, the issues dominating the scene are around radicalization and sharpening of the divide on sensitive issues like cow slaughter and J&K special constitutional position.
Sources said there is a possibility of Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed also having an interaction with the BJP central leadership besides the Prime Minister in coming days.
These meetings will be followed by the Prime Minister’s visit to J&K for formally inaugurating Baglihar-II and a brief stay in Kashmir. There is a possibility of the much-talked about package being announced during the visit. State and the Union governments have evolved a consensus on the quality and quantity of the package that reports suggest would be slightly more than Rs 90,000 Crore. The resource is expected to be spent in next few years by the two governments almost on the pattern of the Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Plan that the then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had announced.
J&K state is expecting part of the resources to help manage the devastation that September 2014 floods caused.
