Accusing Government of India (GoI) of buying time, Awami Itihaad Party(AIP) Sunday resolved to protest the GoI’s unrealistic approach towards the Kashmir issue on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing a one-day party convention in Baramulla , AIP President and MLA Langate Engineer Abdul Rashid said that the Kashmiri people are tired of New Delhi’s negative attitude and saw the Prime
Minister’s upcoming visit as nothing but a time-buying exercise.

Er. Rashid said that while on one hand the majority community in Jammu and Kashmir was trapped in a quagmire of hopelessness, hefty packages are being announced for Hindu migrants.

“Although Kashmiris are not against packages to migrants, the government would do well to explain why no migrant has returned to Kashmir despite the announcement of these packages, government jobs and other perks. Can anybody deny the fact that the majority community has suffered immensely during the past 25 years  and their youth incarcerated or killed in thousands,” Er Rashid asked.

“Yet the minority community which migrated leaving Kashmiris at the mercy of uncertainty and guns has received numerous benefits from the Central and state governments in India. Once again while a drama is being enacted about normalcy in Kashmir, this same community is being again showered with packages and incentives,” he added.

Er. Rashid termed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s Rs one crore relief fund to flood victims in Utrakhand as joke since Kashmiris were craving for even basic amenities.

Er Rashid said not only had the government failed to provide a clean administration to people but the opposition had also failed to play its role because both NC and PDP are more interested in keeping New Delhi happy rather than the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
