Police Arrest Accused In Rape Case In Sgr, Accomplice Still At Large

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police arrested an accused on charges of rape in  Srinagar while his associate is still at large.

Sources said a Bakarwal family from Chenab valley registered a complaint at police station Saddar Srinagar that two youth one from Pulwama and another from Ganderbal sexually assaulted a girl at Padshahi Bagh area in Srinagar outskirts.

Taking cognizance of the complaint, police arrested one of the accused who is also from the Gujjar community while his associate is absconding.

Police sources said that the initial investigation reveals that the accused were in touch with the girl over the phone.

When contacted, a top police official said the police station Saddar received the complaint from the family two days ago and accordingly an FIR was registered and the accused was arrested.

He said one of the accused is a resident of Ganderbal and the other is from South Kashmir’s Pulwama.

“Investigation has been set into motion and all details about the incident are being collected,” he said adding efforts are on to arrest the other accused. (KNT)
