SRINAGAR: Police in Baramulla district have arrested a driver and seized his vehicle within three hours of a fatal road accident involving a 45-year-old woman in the Sheeri area on Sunday.
The woman, identified as Gulshan, wife of Mohd Ramzan and a resident of Malpora, was allegedly hit by a vehicle on the Malpora–Heewan Road. She was taken to Primary Health Centre (PHC) Sheeri in an LP Bus 407 bearing registration number JK05-7249, but later died of her injuries. Preliminary information indicated that she had sustained head injuries.
Following the incident, Police Station Sheeri launched an investigation to establish the circumstances of the accident and identify the vehicle involved. Although initial information pointed to a red-coloured scooter, subsequent investigation led police to identify the passenger vehicle that had taken the woman to hospital as the vehicle allegedly involved in the accident.
Police identified the driver as Amir Majeed Sheikh, son of Abdul Majeed Sheikh and a resident of Fatehgarh. He was apprehended and the vehicle seized within three hours of the incident being reported, police said.
A case has been registered at Police Station Sheeri under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
