SRINAGAR: As part of its ongoing drive against illegal mining, police in Awantipora have arrested five persons and seized three vehicles and one JCB used in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals.
“A police team from Police Station Awantipora, led by SHO DySP (P) Atif Zahoor and under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora, seized three tippers bearing registration numbers JK015-1405, JK13B-0811, and JK04-7922, along with one unregistered JCB. The arrested individuals have been identified as Muzafer Ahmad Shah, son of Ab Hamid Shah, resident of Bahoo Awantipora; Imtiyaz Ahmad Dar, son of Mohd Sultan Dar, and Ubaid Ahmad Dar, son of Farooq Ahmad Dar, both residents of Aghangipora; Abdul Rashid Dar, son of Mohd Jabar Dar, resident of Larkipora Padgampora; and Mehar Ud Din Chachi, son of Ghulam Noorani Chachi, resident of Dadoo Marhama,” Police said in a statement.
It reads, “A case under FIR No. 108/2025 has been registered at Police Station Awantipora under relevant legal provisions, and further investigation has been initiated. Police stated that action will continue against violators who take undue advantage of night hours to extract minerals illegally, which harms public health, the ecology, and government revenue. The public has been requested to report any such activities in their areas.”
