Police Arrest ‘Militant’ who Fled After Attack in Udhampur

One of the “two militants” who had escaped following a gunfight in Udhampur has been arrested by police after locals of the area caught hold of him on Wednesday.

A senior army official told GNS that the militant has tried to escape into the civilian area after one of his associate was killed following attack on a BSF convoy at Saoli on Jammu-Srinagar highway.

The official said that as soon as the militant fled, an alarm was raised; besides people were asked to pass on information on spotting the militant.

He said that when locals spotted him, they overpowered him and handed him over to concerned police station.

Meanwhile, sources said that after initial questioning by police, an army team also visited the police station and are presently question him.

Besides a militant, two BSF troopers were killed and ten others were injured in an attack at Saoli, Udhampur on Jammu-Srinagar highway today morning.
