Police Arrest Three Drug Peddlers in Kashmir’s Srinagar

   

SRINAGAR: Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Srinagar and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A police party of Police Station Maisuma during patrolling at Lal Chowk intercepted two suspicious persons roaming in the area of Multi Level Car Parking Sheik Bagh Lal Chowk, who tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully. During search, Charas like substance wrapped in maize cover sticks and 200 grams of open Charas like substance concealed in two jute-matting bags were recovered from their possession.

 

They have been identified as Asif Mehdi son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Malik and Faisal Haroon son of Irfan Haroon. Both are residents of  Bemina, Srinagar, a police spokesman said in a statement.

 

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 28/2024 under relevant section of law has been registered at Police Station Maisuma and further investigation has been initiated.

 

In another incident, an infamous drug peddler namely Adil Rashid Bhat son of Ab Rashid Bhat, a resident of Usmanabad, Bemina is booked by Srinagar Police under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act (PIT-NDPSA).

 

It is pertinent to mention here that the accused person is involved in several cases of drug peddling including case FIR No. 08/2021 u/s 8/22 NDPS Act of PS Shergari, 119/2022 u/s 8/21 NDPS Act of PS Baramulla and 30/2023 u/s 8/22,27 NDPS Act of PS Batamaloo, a statement issued reads.

 

Keeping in view his persistent involvement in the illicit sale and distribution of drugs and narcotics through illegal network among the youth, a comprehensive dossier was prepared by Srinagar Police and the warrants for lodging him in jail under PIT-NDPS Act were obtained from Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, police said.

 

The accused kept evading his arrest and had fled to Jammu and then to Delhi. However, due to resolute efforts of Police, on 06/12/2024, he was apprehended by Police Station Batamaloo and has been lodged in Central Jail Srinagar to serve his detention, it added.

 

Police will continue its mission of zero tolerance against drug peddling. It is apt to mention here that recently Srinagar Police has attached many properties of drug peddlers worth crores of rupees which they had accumulated through sale of illegal drugs, the statement reads. (KNO)
