According to official details, out of a total of 142 projects, 123 have already been completed. Officials added that the completed projects have marked significant progress in the transformation of the city’s urban landscape.

As per officials, with an estimated budget of Rs 1,000 crore, approximately 75 per cent of the allocated funds have been utilised so far, with the remaining budget reserved for the pending projects.

Among the completed projects, officials highlighted the revamped Polo View High Street, the Clock Tower in the city centre, and the landscaped Jhelum Riverfront embankments.

Officials stated that the refurbished prominent landmarks have enhanced the city’s aesthetics and public spaces. They added that, in addition to these projects, road resurfacing work has been extensively undertaken in various parts of the city, improving travel comfort and road infrastructure.

Notably, the road-widening policy, aimed at expanding pedestrian pathways by reducing road space for vehicles, has drawn criticism from residents. Many have voiced concerns about traffic congestion caused by the reduced carriageway width.

Defending the policy, SSCL officials said, “The designs were meticulously planned with input from subject matter experts and are aligned with legitimate practices to create sustainable, pedestrian-friendly urban spaces.”

Pertinently, Srinagar Smart City projects have missed several deadlines in the past. However, officials this time have assured the completion of the remaining projects in the city.

A senior official said that as 2025 approaches, the focus remains on completing the remaining 19 projects while addressing public concerns. He added that the initiative, which seeks to modernise Srinagar through improved infrastructure and sustainable urban planning, is expected to significantly enhance the quality of life for its residents.
