SRINAGAR: Srinagar police said it has arrested a man and seized fake currency from his possession.

Police Station Shaheed Gunj received an information that a man was possessing fake currency and is trying to spend that near Jahangir Chowk.

On this information, a police team headed by SHO Shaheed Gunj Manzoor Ahmad Beigh reached the spot and apprehended him.  He was later identified as Gulzar Ahmad Shah son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Shah resident of Tral Payeen. Fake currency of Rs 29,000 was recovered from his possession.

A case FIR number 75/2017 under section 489 C, 420 RPC was registered and investigation has been taken up.

Meanwhile, police spokesman said, the police’s efforts to eradicate drug menace are continue.

A police party of Police Station Safa Kadal and Police Post Noorbagh headed by Tehsildar Eidgah Shri Qawam-ud-Din, SHO Saffa Kadal Inspector Syed Mubarak and DO Noorbagh Sub Inspector Aijaz Ahmad, under the supervision of SDPO M.R Gunj S.M Shafi destroyed bhung cultivation spread over on 08 kanals of land at Takanwari area.

Few peddlers were found busy in the process of rubbing bhang leaves and obtaining charas, who fled away on spotting police coming to the spot. However, during the chase, one of them was apprehended by the police party. Srinagar police has registered a case and investigation was taken up.
