Shopian district witnessed a massive agitation and observed continuous shutdown for 45 days in 2009.

The arrestees included Abdul Rashid Dalal, president, Fayaz Ahmad Chapoo, Mohammad Iqbal Zargar and Nisar Ahmad Sofi, all members of the Majlis.
