Kulgam police on Saturday evening recovered one AK47 rifle, one pistol and three magazines from a car during a Naka checking at Al stop Mirbazar area of south Kashmir’s Islamabad district, falling under police jurisdiction of Kulgam.

A police official said that a vehicle bearing registration number JKO3E 7572 was stopped by police during a routine checking at Mirbazar, as soon as the car was stopped two suspected militants fled away from the car leaving behind an Ak47 rifle, one pistol and three magazines.

The official added that the driver identified as Dr Aijaz Rasool, son of Ghulam Rasool, a resident of Khrewen Malpora Kulgam district was arrested, however, the said driver who is a doctor by profession during an investigation said that he was stopped by two unknown persons for the lift and he has no information who they were.

In this regard, police have registered a case and further investigations have been taken up.
