Police station Sumbal on Thursday arrested a drug peddler with contraband substance in Sumbal area of district Bandipora.

The spokesman said that Sumbal Police station placed a Naka at Rakh Asham and intercepted a Maruti vehicle bearing registration no. DL2CZ-3778.

During the checking 700 grams of Charas(powder) was recovered from his possession. The driver of the car identified as Abdul Hamid son of Sana-ul-lah Malla, a resident of Markundal Sumbal was arrested from the spot.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 15/2018 was registered and further investigations were taken up.

Meanwhile, police station Sumbal also arrested seven gamblers and seized a stake money of Rs 32,230 from the gambling spot.

Spokesman said police station Sumbal on Thursday afternoon raided a gambling site at Markundal and arrested seven gamblers identified as Ghulam Nabi Najar son of Mohd Akbar resident of Naidkhai, Javid Ahmed Bhat son of Rajab Bhat resident of Prang Madwan, Mudasir Ahmed Dar son of Mohd Abdullah Bhat resident of Naidkhai, Fayaz Ahmed Dar son of Sonaulah Dar resident of Naidkhai, Habib-ul-lah Malla son of Ghulam Mohd Malla resident of Markundal, Abdul Gani Dar son of Mohd Ramzan Dar resident of Sumbal and Abdul Rashid Mir son of Ghulam Ahmad Mir resident of Naidkhai.

A stake money of Rs 32,230 and gambling cards were seized from the gambling site and a case FIR number 14/2018 under section 13 Gambling Act was also registered in this regard.
