SRINAGAR: In a continued crackdown against the drug menace, police in Awantipora have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substances from his possession.
“A police party from Awantipora Police Station, stationed at a checkpoint at Padgampora Crossing, intercepted a suspicious individual identified as Nazim Ahmad Mir, son of Ab Hamid Mir, a resident of Kawani. During the search, 120 grams of a charas-like substance (in the shape of sticks) wrapped in maize husk were recovered from his possession. He was arrested, and a case (FIR No. 100/2025) under relevant sections of the law has been registered at Awantipora Police Station. An investigation has been initiated,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.
“We urge the public to report any instances of drug peddling or other crimes. If you witness any such activity, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are encouraged to cooperate with the police in curbing the drug menace in society. We reassure the community that police will take strict action against criminals as per the law,” police said.
