The hospital staff of Primary Health Center Wussan Kangan in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal District Tuesday went on strike to protest against the manhandling of the staff members allegedly by a policeman.
Locals also protested against the Special Operation Group man and blocked the Srinagar-Leh road for several hours demanding action against the accused cop.
Eyewitnesses told CNS that two persons one among them affiliated with anti-insurgency wing of SOG had gone to Primary Health Center Wussan with a lady patient for treatment.
Hospital staff told CNS that the lady was complaining of some breathlessness and the doctor after proper checkup diagnosed her with some psychic problem and prescribed some medicines to her. Trouble started when the Doctor Yawar Ahmed enquired about the whereabouts of the lady patient as according to the Doctor the duo were drunk. The duo according to Hospital staff thrashed the doctor and even kicked other Staff members.
Hospital members told CNS that they immediately called the Sarpanch, Sanaullah Shiekh who was also beaten up by the accused. They said that one among the two persons one Muhammad Shafi Parray, aka Shafi Khenze son of Ghulam Muhammad Parrey, a local, took out a pistol from his pocket and threatened the staff members.
Superintendent of Police, Ganderbal Shahid Mehraj told CNS, that the accused SOG man has been arrested and a case has been registered against him adding that police is looking for another persons.
A police official said that they have registered a case vide FIR number 6/2014 under section 353, 336, 510, 307, 427 of RPC. “Nobody is above law and no one is allowed to bring a slur on the fair name of police institution,” he said.
Block Medical Officer Kangan, Dr Mehraj-u-Din told CNS the SOG man misbehaved with the doctor and the staff adding that they have taken up the matter with higher authorities.
Police sources said that the accused cop had been booked in past under various FIR’s. “He has been booked for his involvement in different crimes and FIR numbers vide 6/1996 under section 341, 35/2005 (366, 376), 15/2007 (289), 95/2009 (452, 354), 139/2009 (279, 337), 101/2011 under section 341, 323 of RPC stands registered against him in the same police station.
The Hospital staff identified the another assailant as the brother of the cop Sajad Ahmad Parray resident of Wussan Kangan.
