Police on Friday arrested a timber smuggler and seized his horse cart carrying illicit timber from central Kashmir’s Budgam District.

According to a police spokesman, a Police party from Police Station Khag during patrolling in the Hamchipora area apprehended a timber smuggler identified as Abdul Hameed Khokher, son of Ali Mohammed Khokher, a resident of Shuplain.

Police said that Khokher was carrying timber illicitly brought from the forest area of Budgam on his horse Cart. The illicit timber and the horse cart used for ferrying the timber have also been seized by police.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 21/2018 under section 379/RPC, 6 Forest Act stands registered in Police Station Khag and further investigations have been taken up.
