Police Attach Drug Peddler’s Assets Under NDPS Act in Srinagar

   

SRINAGAR: Srinagar Police have attached a residential property worth Rs 18 lakh in Hazratbal Srinagarunder the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, targeting the financial assets of a ‘notorious’ drug peddler.

“The property belongs to Javid Ahmad Wani, son of Ali Mohammad, a resident of Gasoo, Tehsil Hazratbal. He has been implicated in multiple drug-related cases, including FIR No. 136/2022 under sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Nigeen and FIR No. 27/2024 under sections 8/20, 21 NDPS Act at Police Station Zakoora. Police stated that Wani was a chronic drug peddler, actively involved in selling narcotics, particularly targeting the youth,” reads a statement.

The property, acquired through the proceeds of illegal drug trade, has been attached under Section 68F of the NDPS Act, following confirmation from the competent authority and administrator under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act (SAFEMA), New Delhi. According to police, as per Sections 68E and 68F of the NDPS Act, the attached property cannot be transferred, sold, or dealt with without prior approval from the competent authority.

Police described the move as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks and confiscate assets obtained through illicit narcotics trade.
