Police on Friday claimed to have busted a gang that used to steal cars and motorcycles from different corners of the valley.

Police said that two men have been arrested and 3 Maruti-800 cars along with a motor-bike have been recovered from their possession.

Briefing the media at Khirbhawani police station of Ganderbal, DSP Headquarter, Ganderbal, Dr Rameez Raja said on February 14, an application regarding the theft of a motorcycle from Tullamulla area was received by the police station, Khirbhawani and a case vide FIR No. 05/2017 U/S 379 RPC was registered accordingly.

“Police team headed by SHO Khirbhawani, Mudasir Hussain Zaroo initiated with instant investigation and got a vital lead to arrest Showkat Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Ahad Bhat, resident of Urpash Ganderbal. During questioning he admitted that he along with his associate Shabir Ahmad Bhat, son of Gh Qadir of his locality, have stolen the said motorcycle. The guy while revealing the name of his associate also admitted that they are involved in car lifting from other parts of the valley,” Dr Rameez said.

DSP (HQ) while appreciating the instant action of police team of PS Khirbhawani added that both the accused were arrested and 3 Maruti-800 cars and the mentioned motorcycle were recovered from their possession. “The police investigation is going on and more recoveries are expected”, he said.
