SRINAGAR: Police on Wednesday claimed to have busted a terror module allegedly operated by an ex-militant in a hybrid mode in the Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
According to a police handout, Handwara Police received reliable information about the activities of an ex-militant allegedly functioning as a hybrid militant for the banned terrorist organisation Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) in the Handwara-Kupwara area.
Following the input, Police, along with 21 Rashtriya Rifles and 92 Battalion of the CRPF, conducted a joint operation at an identified location in Handwara town and apprehended the accused.
The arrested person was identified as Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohd Sultan Bhat, a resident of Kruhmura, Handwara.
Police said a Chinese-made pistol, two magazines and 16 rounds of pistol ammunition were recovered from his possession during the operation.
According to Police, Bhat is an ex-militant who had previously been arrested in two cases.
A case, FIR No. 232, has been registered at Police Station Handwara under relevant sections of law. Further investigation is underway to determine the wider extent of the alleged module, its network and other associated activities.
