Police Conduct Raids at Eight Locations in Srinagar Under UAPA Crackdown

   

SRINAGAR: Police on Monday said it conducted raids at eight locations in Srinagar under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) as part of its ongoing crackdown on militant associates.

“Extensive searches” were carried out at various locations across the city in connection with ongoing investigations into UAPA cases. “So far, searches have been conducted at the residences of more than 150 persons alleged to be associated with terrorist networks.”

Police said, “In continuation of the drive, searches were conducted at the residences of eight individuals: Adil Manzoor Langoo, a resident of Zaldagar, involved in FIR No. 08/2024 under Sections 7/27 of the Arms Act, 302 IPC, and 16, 18, 20 of UAPA at Police Station Shaheed Gunj; Basit Bilal Makaya, a resident of DoomKadal, involved in FIR No. 156/2024 under Sections 13, 19, 39 of UAPA; Waseem Tariq Matta, a resident of Rampora, involved in FIR No. 46/2023 under Sections 7/25 of the Arms Act, 4/5 of the Explosives Act, and 18, 23, 38 of UAPA at Police Station Chanpora; Fayaz Ahmad Lone (ex-militant), , a resident of Kaw Mohalla, involved in FIR No. 31/2024 under Sections 7/25 of the Arms Act and 13, 18, 20, 23, 39 of UAPA at Police Station Khanyar; Mohd Ashraf Kaloo, a resident of Aabi Gurpora, also involved in FIR No. 31/2024 at Police Station Khanyar; Qazi Usman, a resident of Devi Angan Hawal, involved in the same case; Muzaffar Ahmad Magray, a resident of Qalamdanpora, involved in FIR No. 49/2006 under Section 7/25 of the Arms Act at Police Station M.R. Gunj; and Shahbaz Farooq Bhat, a resident of Palpora Noorbagh, involved in FIR No. 11/2024 under Sections 13 and 39 of UAPA at Police Station M.R. Gunj.”

Police said the searches were “conducted in accordance with proper legal procedures” and “in the presence of Executive Magistrates and independent witnesses” under the supervision of officers of JK Police. The aim, it said, was to seize “arms, documents, digital devices” and gather evidence “to detect and deter any conspiratorial or any activity against the security of the nation”.

“This decisive action of J&K Police aims to dismantle the terrorist ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir by identifying and taking legal action against individuals engaged in such anti-national and criminal activities,” the statement added.

Srinagar Police said it “remains committed to safeguarding peace and security in the city” and warned that “any individual found furthering the agenda of violence, disruption, or unlawful activities will face strict legal consequences under the law.” (GNS)
