SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police in Budgam and Awantipora made significant arrests in two separate cases involving theft and extortion.
“In Budgam, police arrested three individuals in connection with a theft case involving vehicle parts. A complaint was received from Manzoor Ahmad Chopan of Bonen Chadoora reporting the theft of tyres, batteries, and other items from Bonen and nearby areas on the night of May 12-13, 2025. Following investigation and examination of the crime scene, three accused—Aijaz Ahmad Doyi, Bilal Ahmad Khatana, and Mohammad Iqbal Bani, all residents of Bonen Chadoora—were detained. They confessed to the theft, leading to the recovery of nine tyres, two vehicle batteries, two speakers, one music player, four tyre disks, and a Maruti Suzuki 800 car (Registration JK05-8922). The case is registered under FIR No. 86/2025 at Police Station Chadoora, and further investigation is underway,” police said.
Meanwhile, in Awantipora, police arrested two individuals for impersonating police officials and extorting money. “The case surfaced after Mushtaq Ahmad Dar of Naristan lodged a complaint that the accused were falsely presenting themselves as close associates of police personnel and demanding money under threat. The accused, identified as Jaliya Parveen of Monghal, Anantnag, and Bilal Ahmad Rah of Chanapora, Srinagar, reportedly targeted suspects called for questioning. FIR No. 62/2025 was registered at Police Station Tral, and both accused are now in custody.”
