Police File Case After Dead Mice Found in Vendor’s Cooking Oil in Srinagar

   

SRINAGAR: Police have registered an FIR against a street food vendor in Hazratbal, Srinagar, for allegedly spreading infection through unhygienic food.

Srinagar Police, in a post on X said, FIR No. 10/2025 has been registered at Police Station Nigeen under Section 271 BNS for an unlawful and negligent act of spreading infection by a street food vendor in the Hazratbal area.”

The action comes after a shocking incident in which a customer found two dead mice inside an open oil tin used by the vendor to fry fritters and local sweets, commonly known as ‘Manjgool Wol.’ The discovery led to chaos in the area, as a large number of devotees had gathered at the Hazratbal shrine for congregational prayers.

Eyewitnesses reported that the customer, upon noticing the contamination, immediately raised an alarm, drawing a crowd of angry onlookers. Police arrived at the scene, seized the oil tin along with the dead mice, and launched an investigation.

The incident has raised serious concerns over food safety, with locals demanding strict action against the vendor to ensure public health and hygiene.
