Police resorted to tear gas shelling to disperse protesting Tehreek-i-Hurriyat (TeH) members at Hyderpora. TeH, headed by Syed Ali Geelani, had planned to hold party convention to observe its ‘Foundation Day’ on Sunday.

Reports and witnesses said that police fired several tear gas shells and also used water cannon to disperse the activists of TeH. The TeH activists had blocked Srinagar international airport road near Hyderpora and were observing sit-in.

“The TeH Secretary General, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, who was drenched in blue water which was used by police to disperse the aggrieved members, was detained and taken to Humhama police post,” a TeH activist said. “A few more people have been arrested along with Sehrai.”

Hurriyat (g) spokesperson said, “police resorted to lathi charge and tear gas shelling and also used water cannons.” “Our members who were coming from far off places to attend the party convention were detained along with their vehicles.”
