Police Sunday arrested a wanted drug peddler from North Kashmir’s Pattan area and recovered 1000 strips of Alprax tablets from him.

Station House Officer Pattan, Mehboob Bandey told CNS that Reyaz Ahmed Bhat son of Mohammad Akbar Bhat resident of Malapora Pattan is a notorious drug peddler who used to supply banned drugs to youth from Pattan and Sopore area.

After receiving specific information, police party laid a nakka in Pattan market and arrested him. “Though Reyaz Bhat tried to flee from the spot however he was chased by the policemen and was trapped. The bag carried by him contained 1000 strips of Alprax tablets,” SHO said.

An FIR vide 163/2013 under section 8/22 of NDPS Act has been registered against him.

Pertinently, Alprax is a brand name for Alprazolam. This is a Benzodiazepeine used to treat nervous disorders and anxiety and it is a highly addictive drug.
