Police in its drive against drug peddlers, nabbed four peddlers and recovered large quantity of Codeine Phosphate from their possession.
“Acting on specific information, a police party of Police station Sumbal headed by SHO Sumbal Mehboob Hussain Banday under the supervision of SDPO Sumbal Rashid Akbar laid a Naka at Shilvat crossing.
During the Naka an Alto car bearing registration number JK16-3513 was intercepted. On checking of the car 800 codeine phosphate bottles were recovered. Four peddlers who were transporting these drugs have been arrested and were identified as Ashraf Wani resident of Tulmulla Ganderbal, Hilal Ahmad Wani resident of Wangipora, Tanveer Ahmad Rather and Parveez Ahmad Rather both residents of Nesbal. Sumbal Police has registered a case FIR number 121/2015 under section 8/21 NDPS Act and investigation has been taken up,” a police statement said Wednesday evening.
During the initial investigation it surfaced that these drugs were transported from Srinagar to Sumbal.
The statement further said that one person died while four others were injured in different road accidents.
An LP Truck bearing registration number JK05C-8263 met with an accident near Shilikchey Bridge in Kargil, resulting in on spot death of Mohammad Umer son of Mohammad Akbar Dar resident of Selo Baramulla and injuries to its driver Mushtaq Ahmad and another passenger Imran Gujjari, both residents of Sopore. Both the injured have been shifted to the Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, a Tractor bearing registration number JK09/4616 turned turtle near Nallah Mawar, Handwara resulting in injuries to its driver Mohammad Yousuf Pir resident of Zachaldara. The injured was shifted to SKIMS Soura Srinagar for treatment.
In another accident, a Bolero bearing registration number JK15/5778 hit and injured a pedestrian Manzoor Ahmed Ganie son of Mohammad Jabbar, a resident of Patshai, Bandipora. The injured was shifted to SKIMS Soura Srinagar for treatment.
