Police on Friday seized 18 quintals of PDS rice and a gang of black marketers and employees of CAPD in Soura area of Srinagar.
The spokesman said during a Naka checking two auto drivers Tanveer Ahmad Beigh son of Firdous Ahmad Beigh, a resident of Ahmed Nagar Srinagar and Mohammad Ashraf Shah son of Mohammad Subhan Shah, a resident of Bewara Danmar Sangam Srinagar were intercepted with six gunny sacks of PDS rice loaded inside the auto.
The auto bearing registration number JK01S-5376 was also sealed by the police.
The duo was arrested and auto was also seized on the spot. In this regard, a case FIR number 15/2018 U/s 409, 411,120-B RPC was registered in Police Station Soura and further investigation has been taken up. police said that during the course of Investigation the duo disclosed that they had illegally bought the rice from the government storekeeper namely Mohammad Haneef Dar resident of Awantabhawan A/P Ellahibagh Soura, Srinagar, who runs the PDS store (Shali store) at Ellahibagh Soura.
The said government storekeeper was accordingly arrested and during questioning / interrogation he disclosed that he illegally sells the PDS rice actually meant for public distribution to one person namely Bashir Ahmad Wani son of Ghulam Ahmad Wani resident of Narwara Eidgah and accordingly during the further investigation 30 Bags of PDS rice which he had repackaged illegally into duplicate “Apple Brand” rice bags, one sewing machine, weighing machine and sewing thread was also recovered from the spot and accused person was also arrested.
