Even as business community observed a complete shutdown on Wednesday, Sopore Police has registered two separate cases in the burglary and blaze incidents that destroyed at least 12 shops and a restaurant in this north Kashmir town in the wee hours on Tuesday.

Police have registered two FIRs (2/2018 and 3/2018) in the burglary and blaze incidents late last night and started investigations, a police spokesman told Kashmir Wire.

A  Complete shutdown was observed by traders in Sopore on Wednesday on the call given by Trade body against “negligence of local administration to prevent thefts and save the town from miscreants”.

Trade body president Haji Mohammad Ashraf Ganai on Tuesday at a press conference alleged that local administration has failed to protect the town from night robberies resulting in a loss to traders.

Following the call, all shops and other business establishments remained closed in the town. However, public transport was plying smoothly on all routes.

The shutdown call was given after the fire incident which was reported at General Bus Stand Sopore where over a dozen shops and a restaurant were gutted in a devastating fire and property worth lakhs was destroyed. (Kashmir Wire)
