Jammu and Kashmir Police Friday used aerial firing and tear gas shelling against protestors in Shalteng area of Srinagar.

Shalteng area is witnessing complete shutdown today as the people are seeking re-arrest of a driver who was released by police yesterday.

The people said that the driver is involved in the death of a local student. “Some days ago, one of our young students was killed in a road accident and the erring driver was arrested by police,” Javid Ahmad, a local said.

However, the locals alleged that the driver has been released. “Our demand was simple, to are-arrest the driver,” the locals said. However, there has been no action by police yet.

The slain student was studying at Tahira Khanam’s Institute Lawaypora. She has been identified as Arshida Yusuf (25), d/o: Muhammad Yusuf Rather. She died as on way to home from her college when she was hit by Sumo on June 08, 2016.

The protests at Shalteng has resulted in severe traffic Jam.
