Police Search Homes of Jailed TeH Members in UAPA Case in Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar Police on Thursday conducted searches as part of ongoing investigations into cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

A police spokesperson said in a statement said, “Searches were carried out in connection with FIR number 01/2024 under the UAPA, pertaining to banned organisations, after obtaining search warrants from the designated NIA Court in Srinagar.”

“The search, related to the investigation of FIR 01/2024 registered under Sections 10 and 13 of the UAPA at Police Station Rajbagh, was carried out along with an Executive Magistrate 1st Class at the residences of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat members—namely Bashir Ahmed Bhat alias Peer Saifullah, son of Ali Mohammad Bhat, resident of Zadoora Pulwama, currently residing at Rawalpora and presently lodged in Tihar Jail; and Mohammad Ashraf Laya, son of Ghulam Rasool Laya, resident of Jamia Qadeem Baramulla, currently residing at Old Barzulla,” the statement read.

During the search, police said incriminating material including books, letterheads, pamphlets, and letters related to the investigation were recovered from the house of Bashir Ahmed Bhat. These items were seized in the presence of a Magistrate and an independent witness as per legal procedure.

“The investigation of the case is ongoing,” the statement added.

“JK Police remains committed to maintaining peace and security in the city. Any individual found furthering the agenda of violence, disruption, or unlawful activities will face strict legal consequences under the law,” the spokesperson said. (KNO)
