SRINAGAR: Police on Tuesday arrested a truck driver and confiscated 6,250 Kashmir willow clefts valued at Rs 50 Lakh from him in the Kathua area of Jammu and Kashmir, media reports said.

The police team, led by SHO PS Lakhanpur Insp Sunil Kumar Sharma, stopped a truck traveling from Kathua to Punjab at a toll plaza in Lakhanpur. The truck was discovered to be loaded with what seemed to be willow clefts during inspection, while the driver, identified as Kuldeep Singh from Jalandhar was arrested.

The truck was laden with 5,000 full-size plain double Kashmir willow clefts, 750 full-size plain single Kashmir willow clefts, and 500 full size plain STR Kashmir willow clefts, reports suggest.

The vehicle along with the confiscated material was handed over to the Forest Department for further verification..
