SRINAGAR: Anantnag Police on Thursday recovered a significant quantity of contraband during a search operation in the Ashmuqam area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
According to police, Police Station Ashmuqam received specific and credible information that a woman identified as Mst Fatima, daughter of Ghulam Hassan Tak and a resident of Amad, had allegedly stored poppy straw at her residence for illegal sale and distribution.
Acting promptly on the information, police registered FIR No. 54/2026 under Section 8/15 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and launched an investigation into the matter.
During the course of the investigation, a search operation was conducted at the suspect’s residence, which led to the recovery of approximately 5.960 kilograms of poppy straw. The contraband was seized on the spot after completing all legal formalities as prescribed under law.
Police officials said that further investigation is underway to trace the source of the recovered narcotics and identify any individuals or networks involved in the illegal drug trade.
Reaffirming its commitment to eradicating the drug menace from society, Anantnag Police said it will continue its intensified anti-narcotics campaign across the district. Police also appealed to the general public to assist law enforcement agencies by sharing any information related to drug trafficking or substance abuse with the nearest police station.
The police emphasised that strict action will continue against those involved in narcotics-related activities to safeguard the youth and maintain a drug-free society. (KNC)
