The government has booked three alleged drug peddlers arrested by Police in three different areas of North Kashmir in January under Public Safety Act (PSA).

SSP Baramulla Imtiyaz Hussain told CNS that police had arrested three notorious drug peddlers last month and it had requested the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir for detaining these drug peddlers under Public Safety Act (PSA). “The Divisional Commissioner accordingly under section 3 of prevention of illicit traffic in Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substance Act 1988 issued the order,” he said while identifying these drug peddlers as Jahangir Khan of Wanigam Pattan, Ghulam Mustafa Var of Drangbal Baramulla and Fayaz Mir of Kreeri Pattan.

“These drug peddlers were continuous source of nuisance and were supplying drugs to addicts on regular basis. We have managed to apprehend notorious drug peddlers so far and the drive against them will continue,” SSP Baramulla said adding the trio have been sent to sub jail Kupwara.

Meanwhile, DIG North Kashmir, Gareeb Das, claimed that North Kashmir will be drug free zone till the end of this year. “We have chalked out a strategy under which all the drug peddlers will be booked under stringent Public Safety Act and stern action will be taken against those using drugs in the three districts of North Kashmir,” Das said.
