Police Solve Theft Case, Arrest Five in Drug Recoveries Across Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday solved a theft case in South Kashmir’s Awantipora and arrested five persons in separate anti-drug operations, recovering contraband substances and stolen property.

“In Awantipora, Police Station Khrew received a complaint on July 12 from Shabir Ahmad Bhat of Khrew, reporting the theft of a welding machine and cable from his shed. A case under FIR No. 54/2025 was registered and investigation was taken up. During the course of investigation, one suspect, identified as Zuhain Farooq Lone, a resident of Khrew, was questioned. He admitted to the crime and the stolen items were recovered from his possession. The property was later handed over to its rightful owner after legal formalities,” a police spokesperson said a statement.

In a separate development, police arrested four persons in two anti-drug operations in the Pampore area of Awantipora. “At Tulbagh Crossing, a suspect identified as Khursheed Ahmad Ganie of Khanmoh was found with four grams of heroin-like substance. A case under FIR No. 76/2025 was registered at Police Station Pampore.”

“Later, at Befina Road, police arrested three persons identified as Manzoor Ahmed Mir of Kadalbal Pampore, Asrar Manzoor of Pantha Chowk Srinagar, and Muneer Rasool Bhat of Namblabal Pampore. 10.38 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession. A case under FIR No. 77/2025 was registered at Police Station Pampore.” police said.

In Baramulla’s Kreeri area, police intercepted a scooty at Wanigam Payeen and recovered 1.95 kg of poppy straw-like substance. “The rider, Hilal Ahmad Bukhari of Kreeri, was arrested and the vehicle was seized. A case under FIR No. 57/2025 was registered at Police Station Kreeri.”

Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking or theft.
