Srinagar

Police on Saturday used force to disperse protesting Anganwari workers who were demanding hike in honorarium and regularisation of their service in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

Reports said that the anganwadi workers of the district staged a sit-in at Duderhama market, blocking the traffic movement on Ganderbal-Safapora road.

However, police swung into action and fired tear gas after the protesters refused to move away.

When contacted, SHO Ganderbal said that the protesters refused to accept their repeated requests to clear the road.

He said they were forced to use mild lathi-charge besides firing a couple of smoke shells in the air to disperse the protesters and clear the road for traffic.
