SRINAGAR

People’s Democratic Party supporters  and few independent candidates hailing from Sonawar Assembly segment Thursday registered their protest before Returning Officer at DC Office Srinagar after it came to fore that the People’s Conference candidate for Sonawar Assembly segment Lal Din Mir has entered wrong information in his affidavit that no criminal case is pending against him. The affidavit filed by People’s Conference candidate Lal Din Mir contradicts the police records which shows that Mir was found guilty by TADA court Jammu for his alleged involvement in kidnapping the then Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) chairman K.D.Doraiswamy during the hey days of militancy in Kashmir in 1991.

PDP supporters demanded that the nomination papers of Mir for Sonawar Constituency should be cancelled and criminal proceedings should be initiated against him for misleading the authorities and entering wrong information in his affidavit. “There are clear cut directions from the Election Commission of India that any candidate who enters misleading information in his affidavit should be barred from contesting elections. I showed the judgment copy of TADA court Jammu and yet the Returning Officer did not initiate any action against People’s Conference candidate,” a PDP supporter told CNS.

According to PDP supporters, Lal Din Mir was sentenced for two years for his involvement in kidnapping ONGC chairman and a case vide FIR number 41/1991 under section 364, 3/2 TP still stands registered against him at Panta Chowk Police Station. They demanded that the nomination papers of the said candidate should be cancelled immediately so that no candidate in future will dare to enter wrong information in affidavit.
