Police claimed on Thursday to have arrested a peddler and recovered 159 Kgs of Poppy straw besides recovered 11 logs of timber from three persons in separate incidents in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

A police statement said that acting on a specific information, Kulgam police intercepted a LP Truck bearing registration No JK02AL/5979. During the search of the truck police recovered 159 kgs of poppy strew. The truck driver Rashi Kumar son of Mani Lal resident of Satwari Jammu has been arrested. Police said that a case has been registered under FIR number 169/14 under section 15/18 NDPS and investigation is on.

Meanwhile, Police in another action intercepted a  Tata 407 bearing registration number Jk03C/7601 at Chawalgam, bypass Kulgam and recovered 11 logs of Kail timber. Three accused Mubark Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Ahmad Dar resident of Pumby Kakran, Shah Nawaz Ahmad son of Mohammed Yosuf Dar resident of Yaroo Noor Abad and Gulzar Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Nabi Dar resident of Kharwatt have been arrested from the vehicle. Police has registered a case FIR number 170/2014 under section 379 RPC and 6 forest act and investigation is on.
