SRINAGAR: Abdul Ahad Bhat, one of Kupwara’s oldest National Conference workers passed away on Sunday. He was unwell for last few months.

Mir Saifullah, former MLA and law minister was part of Bhat’s funeral, reports said.

A resident of Poshpora near Kunan, Bhat was almost ninety. He had joined the party during the Plebiscite Front days. He was Halqa President of the party for the last four decades in a row. He is being credited for getting his belt a hospital, the school and a road link. The local legend is that once he was given two options: a job for his son or a bridge to his village, he picked the second choice.

He is survived by his son, and three daughter, all settled.

Bhat’s grandson, Tahir is an intern with Kashmir Life.
