Post-Government Formation, Amit Shah to Review Jammu Kashmir Security Landscape

   

SRINAGAR: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a high-level security meeting regarding Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday evening. This marks the first such meeting since the formation of the Omar Abdullah-led popular government in October. The meeting will address key security concerns, according to official sources.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, will also attend the meeting. Other attendees include Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Director General of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Chief Secretary, and J&K DGP, among other senior officials.

This will be the second security review chaired by Shah this year, following a similar meeting in June. The discussions will focus on maintaining stability and addressing strategic concerns in the region.

 

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will meet Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tomorrow in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. He will advocate for increased financial grants for the region in the upcoming fiscal year during a conference of State and Union Territory representatives.

Jammu and Kashmir’s budget for 2024-25 stands at Rs 1,18,390 crore, slightly lower than the Rs 1,18,500 crore allocated in the previous fiscal year. The Centre has allocated Rs 42,277.74 crore to the region in the Union Budget, with an additional Rs 9,789.42 crore earmarked for the JK Police.

The next budget is expected to be presented in the JK Legislative Assembly by late January or early February 2024. These developments underline the critical focus on security, governance, and financial stability in the region. (With Input KINS, KNO)
