Department of Posts, J&K Circle will be organizing ‘Srinagar Post Office Fest’ from May 20 to May 22 2013 on the theme “Clean Srinagar, Green Srinagar”. The programme will be organised in collaboration with Srinagar Municipal Corporation, said John Samuel, Chief Post Master General, J&K Circle.  The objective of Srinagar Post Office Festival is to trigger the development of Srinagar and to make it on par with world class cities by involving the people of Srinagar.

As per a statement John Samuel, Chief PMG has said that Srinagar Post Office Fest will have many programs that will bring the people of Srinagar together.  “There will be Stamp Designing Competition on ‘Clean Srinagar and Green Srinagar’ and this will be open to school children, college students and other members of the public.  The objective is to get people’s imagination on developing Srinagar on par with world class towns.  The letter writing competition on the theme ‘Clean Srinagar and Green Srinagar’ will encourage people to share their ideas on developing Srinagar city.  Further there will be debate and discussions on the development of Srinagar town as a modern and people friendly town.  The Post Office will also organize philately exhibition and quiz competition as a part of the Post Office Fest”,  said John Samuel.

The Post Office has been involved in the social development of the people of J&K by holding programmes on various social issues. The Department last year held function on Girl Child and recently held two programmes on Women Empowerment. The Department of Post is committed to social development of J&K. The ‘Srinagar Post Office Fest-2013’ aims to develop Srinagar by connecting with the people.

During 2011, Post Office organized Chinar -2011 Philatelic Exhibition at SKICC, Srinagar which proved to be a major initiative in linking with the people. Now, Srinagar Post Office Fest-2013 will involve the people of Srinagar with a major Philately Exhibition and other programs.

John Samuel has added that in a major initiative to develop Jammu and Kashmir, 20 Post Office are being upgraded and modernized with new facilities under ‘Project Arrow’.  With this initiative, more postal facilities and IT based services will be available to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Project Arrow Qazigund Post Office was dedicated to public on 17.04.2013 and Tourist Post Office Gulmarg was dedicated on 20.04.2013. In Kashmir Region, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Chadoora, Kashmir University, Karan Nagar, Verinag, Brein, Bagh-e- Mehtab, and Lal Chowk Post Offices will be upgraded soon, said Chief Post Master General.  In addition, In Jammu Region, Reasi, Banihal, Ramban, Batote, Jurian, Vijaypur, Jammu University, TalabTilloo, Railway Station, Jammu, Hiranagar, Basoli, Lakhanpur post offices will be upgraded.
