The Power Development Department (PDD) has issued notice to Nawa-i-Subh–National Conference headquarter, asking it to clear the pending electricity dues within a period of 15-days failing which power supplies shall be snapped to it.
Bashir Ahmad Khan, Chief Engineer PDD while talking to KNS stated that the department has issued notice to the NC headquarters and that an early action into the matter is expected to be taken soon. “We have clearly mentioned in the notice that the department shall cut the power supply to the office if the pending dues are not be cleared within the stipulated period.”
Khan added further, “There are defaulters of all categories here and that the department has sent the notice to them in the past as well. In the coming time, action against several defaulters will be initiated.”
Stating that the department has no plans to amend the prevailing curtailment schedule in valley, the PDD chief stated that the schedule would remain in effect till March 2014. “There will be absolutely no change in the schedule and the metered and non-metered areas have to wait till March next year.”
Commenting over the present power crises in valley, PDD chief said that the supply has increased many a times but the load shedding in several areas across valley is compelling the department to go for more power cuts. “We have the supply of 1200 megawatts but at the same time we have more than 1500 megawatts being consumed.”
Khan further remarked that the protests in several areas against the power crises was due to over loading in the respective areas and that the department has taken necessary action so that the losses could be mitigated. “We have issued additional transformer to Bemina area and the same is being done in Awantipora area. I appeal people that to consume power economically.”
NC additional general secretary Dr Mustafa Kamal, when asked to comment on the PDD notice issued to his party headquarter, said: “We respect the law of land. Whatever dues are pending against our party headquarters will be paid in due time. Maybe there were some lapses from both sides but we will plead our case accordingly. We will check why we have not been able to pay dues this year when we have never been defaulter of the PDD in last 35 years.”
