Ruling National Conference Friday ruled out any possibility of pre-poll alliance with Congress for next year’s Assembly elections.
Party’s senior leader and additional general secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal told CNS that NC will contest the 2014 Assembly elections on the pattern of previous polls.
“There is no question about it and there is absolutely no possibility of doing it,” Kamal said when asked if NC will go for pre-poll alliance with its current coalition partner Congress. He said that NC will fight the ensuing polls single-handedly as the party “has a strong base in the state”.
“We have fought on our own in 1987, 1996, 2002 and 2008 assembly polls. We will repeat the same exercise in the next year’s elections,” Kamal said. “NC is the oldest regional party here having its history laden with efforts to remain relevant. People believe in us and we don’t want to degrade our stature and position by entering into any pre-poll alliance with the Congress,” added Kamal.
Kamal further said that there had been no alliance when Sheri Kashmir fought election in 1983 but the alliance with Indira Gandhi was only for government formation.
Coming down heavily on Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani for creating law and order problems Kamal said that Geelani has only one motto that is to create chaos and confusion.
Terming Geelani as the biggest hurdle in peace and dialogue process, Kamal said that Geelani fought elections four times.
On privilege motion against ex-army chief Gen (Retd) V.K.Singh, Kamal said that Singh is bound to appear before the Privilege Committee to explain his position regarding the privilege motion pending against him in the House.
