Srinagar: President Ram Nath Kovind, accompanied by First Lady Savita Kovind on Wednesday arrived Jammu and Kashmir on a 2-day visit to the winter capital of the state.

The spokesman said Governor N N Vohra, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Speaker Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta, Chairman Legislative Council Haji Anayat Ali, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh, Minister for Revenue Abdul Rehman Veeri, Minister for Cooperatives Chering Dorjay, Minister for PHE Sham Lal Choudhary and Minister for Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Zulfkar Ali received the President at the Technical Airport here.

Chief Secretary B B Vyas, Director General of Police S P Vaid, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Hemant Kumar Sharma and military and paramilitary officials were also present on the occasion.

The President is visiting the state to address the Sixth Convocation of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) at Katra today.

Over 880 scholars will receive their degrees and merit certificates at the ceremony. Founder & Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, Sunil Bharti Mittal and Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Munjal Auto Engineering Ltd, Sudhir Munjal will be conferred honorary Doctorate by SMVDU on the occasion.

A civic reception will be held at Amar Mahal Lawns in Jammu city to honour Kovind later in the day.

He will be also meeting the Chief Justice, Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar and other Judges of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court over breakfast here.
