After attending a civic reception at Sindhu Ghat, the President of India concluded her visit to Ladakh, where she interacted with local tribal groups and Self Help Groups.

Addressing the gathering, President Murmu highlighted the global dissemination of Buddha’s teachings from Ladakh and emphasised the cultural and spiritual importance of the Sindhu River. She expressed her admiration for the region’s resilient inhabitants.

At Sindhu Ghat, President Murmu stressed the significance of conserving and efficiently utilizing Ladakh’s water resources, originating from its rivers and glaciers. She lauded the achievements of the Jal Jeevan Mission, which has provided drinking water to about 80 percent of households in the past four years.

President Murmu recognised the contributions of Dr Tsering Landol, the region’s first gynaecologist, who has dedicated over four decades to women’s healthcare and received the Padma Bhushan in 2020.

She highlighted Ladakh’s vast potential for spiritual, adventure, and eco-tourism, as well as wellness and health tourism, appreciating the region’s captivating beauty.

President Murmu called for the preservation of tribal communities’ traditional lifestyles in harmony with the environment and encouraged the adoption of modern development benefits. “This blend of tradition and modernity is the path to sustainable development and will benefit all citizens, including those of Ladakh,” she stated.

Commending Ladakh’s prosperity, particularly the GI Tags awarded to Raktsey Karpro Apricot, Pashmina Wool, and Wood Carving, Murmu noted that these recognitions align with the accomplishments of Tsering Namgyal, who received the Padma Shri last year for his contributions to advancing wood carving in the region.

The President urged the people of Ladakh to continue their dedicated work in their respective fields to advance the region’s growth. She assured the people of the Government of India’s steadfast support and commitment to their progress and development. (KNO)
