On completion of his three year tenure as Vice Chancellor of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Prof. R. N. K. Bamezai is relinquishing charge on January 21, 2013 and returning to Jawaharlal Nehru University from where he had come on deputation.

As per the Statutes of the University, Governor N N Vohra, who is Chancellor of the University, has constituted a search committee headed by Dr. S. S. Bloeria, Vice Chancellor of the Central University, Jammu, to recommend a panel of candidates for the selection of a suitable successor of Prof. Bamezai.

According to officials, the selection process is at an advanced stage and the new Vice Chancellor of SMVDU is likely to take over shortly.

In the meantime, to run the affairs of the University, the Chancellor has directed his Principal Secretary,  Navin K. Choudhary, to officiate as the Vice Chancellor of the University with Prof. M. L. Garg, School of Computer Sciences and Engineering, functioning as Coordinator, to help the officiating VC in dealing with Academic issues, till the new Vice Chancellor takes over.

Reacting to reports in a section of media, Dr. Mandeep Bhandari, Additional CEO of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board maintained that the University is run in the best professional manner as per its Statutes, with the Vice Chancellor taking all required decisions and, as in other Universities, the University Council of the SMVDU is its supreme policy decision making body.
