A Delhi sessions court Saturday granted bail to Delhi University professor SAR Geelani, slapped of sedition charges.
Special Judge Deepak Garg granted bail to Geelani, stating that bail is made out against the accused. The court has asked Geelani to furnish Rs 50000 as personal bond and one surety like amount.
Geelani, arguing for bail had said that seeking bail the sedition case had been “falsely foisted upon him” over Press Club event.
Geelani also had told the court that the very basis of the registration of FIR was an alleged report published by Zee News about the incident. However, “contrary to the submissions” of police before the trial court, “there are no video clips of the public event,” he said.
Geelani was booked for sedition for allegedly raising “anti-national” slogans after organising an event marking the death anniversary of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru at the Press Club of India.
