Property Worth 30 Lacs Seized from Drug Peddler in South Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday said that property valued at 30 lacs has been seized in South Kashmir’s Awantipora as part of their ongoing crackdown on drug peddlers.

A police spokesperson in a statement said, “The residential property of Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Ahad Bhat and a resident of Larkipora Padgampora Awantipora, has been attached under Chapter VA of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985. This step was taken as part of the forfeiture proceedings related to his unlawfully acquired assets, following the registration of FIR No. 212/2022 under Sections 8 and 20 of the NDPS Act.”

The police spokesperson explained that the FIR was registered on September 28, 2022, after a report from the Naka party at Padgampora. “At about 5:45 PM that day, an individual carrying a nylon bag was seen approaching the Naka party. Upon noticing the police, the suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended.”

A search of the bag revealed approximately 15 kg and 700 grams of ground cannabis. Preliminary questioning identified the individual as Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, who was found to be involved in the illegal narcotics trade and was allegedly transporting the drugs for distribution in nearby areas.

Following the investigation, authorities confirmed that legal action in accordance with relevant provisions has been taken against Manzoor Ahmad Bhat.
