SRINAGAR

Residents of Srinagar’s Rajbagh, Jawahar Nagar areas Wednesday took to street to protests against the pending flood relief from the state government.

Chanting anti-government slogans, the residents of these twin areas—badly impacted in September 2014 flood—blocked the traffic and vowed to continue their protest till “govt won’t clear their pending relief amount”.

“Mufti government made it to the CM’s chair by playing a flood relief card,” said Farooq Ahmad, one of the protesters. “And now, the man seems to have turned his back towards the flood-affected.”

It is pertinent to mention here that out of total Rs 80,000 crore package announced by Modi government recently, Rs 7854 crore were announced for flood relief, reconstruction and flood management.

The protesters while decrying govt apathy said the “so-called” package announcement is limited to “paper work” only.

“On ground, nobody seems to get benefited from these packages,” the protesters said.
