Srinagar

Many parts of Srinagar city Tuesday turned up on roads and blocked traffic to protest against the “denial” of basic amenities.

In Nowhatta, locals assembled in the main chowk and blocked road resulting in traffic chaos in old city.

The protesters said the present dispensation is making them suffer for the want of, ration and other basic amenities forcing them to hit the road.

Meanwhile spontaneous shutdown is being observed in Abi Guzar and adjoining areas. Residents of the area forced shopkeepers to put down their shutters. The protestors then assembled on Residency road and blocked traffic.

“We have come out to protest against government’s callous approach towards us,” said a protester. “Despite registering our grievances repeatedly, government doesn’t seem to care.”

The protestors raised slogans against the government and said that the recently passed Food Security Bill is against the common people.

Similar protests were reported from areas of Habba Kadal, Maisuma and Bemina.

The protests have triggered massive traffic chaos in Srinagar, giving tough time to the commuters.
